The 632-acre site - about 30 miles south of New Orleans - includes 7,000 feet of river frontage and is owned by the Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District. The complex will be located on the west bank of the Mississippi River near Mile Marker 55, downriver of Myrtle Grove. Plaquemines LNG will be built to an export capacity of 20 million metric tons per year. Louisiana Economic Development (LED) estimates that the project will result in an additional 728 new indirect jobs, for a total of more than 975 new jobs for Plaquemines Parish and the Southeast Region. Plaquemines LNG will create 250 new direct jobs at an average annual salary of $70,000 per year, plus benefits. Plaquemines LNG will be Venture Global’s second major natural gas liquefaction and export project in Louisiana, joining the $4.5 billion Calcasieu Pass project in Cameron Parish that is under development. Once operational, the Calcasieu Pass Pass project would become the seventh large LNG export facility in the US.Venture Global LNG will invest $8.5 billion to develop a natural gas liquefaction facility and LNG export terminal in Plaquemines Parish, LA. Some reports also suggested the firm had issued a tender for cargoes from Calcasieu Pass for delivery starting later this year. In addtion, Venture has also said in a filing to FERC in March that it could start first exports from the LNG facility by the end of this year with full operations planned in mid-2022. The company said earlier this year it had received about a half of the 18 modular units with a capacity of 0.6 mtpa, each. Venture Global gets Calcasieu Pass modular trains from Baker Hughes’ manufacturing facility in Italy. The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said in a letter dated May 10 it had approved Venture Global’s request to introduce “temporary aqueous ammonia to the LM2500 gas turbine.” The Calcasieu Pass project will produce about 10 mtpa of LNG from 18 modular units configured in 9 blocks. Venture Global LNG’s Calcasieu Pass export project in Louisiana has received approval from US regulators to commission a gas turbine as it continues to progress towards the first production.
